European Archaeology Days 2026 at Gergovia, Corent and Gondole

History awaits you at the Gergovia Museum and at the Arverni sites on 13 and 14 June! For the 2026 European Archaeology Days, the Archaeological Museum of the Battle of Gergovie invites you to discover the Gallic past and the behind-the-scenes of archaeological research over a full weekend of activities. Whether you are history enthusiasts, archaeology lovers, science fans or simply looking for a fun outing, join us at the Gergovia plateau, Corent and Gondole to travel back in time!

BOOKING STRONGLY RECOMMENDED (Given the expected attendance, only online booking guarantees entry to the museum. Visits are in french language.)

European Archaeology Days at Gergovia

Free and open visit to the Gergovia Museum

To celebrate the European Archaeology Days, admission to the museum is free for all visitors! Solo, as a couple or with the family, take advantage of this exceptional discovery weekend to explore the entire history of Gergovie and the Arverni lands, from the Gallic past to current archaeological studies. It is also an opportunity to discover for free the temporary exhibition Cut from Gallic cloth. Costume and jewellery in Gaul”.

Guided tour of the Gergovia Museum

Want to learn more about the Battle of Gergovia and the life of the Gauls? Our guide-mediators will take you through the museum’s permanent exhibition during an exceptional private tour in privileged conditions.

Archeobus journey

Board our archaeological shuttle for a surprising guided tour taking you from Gergovie to the oppidum of Corent, passing through Gondole and Caesar’s camps! A journey into the past at the heart of the Arverni territory, narrated by a guide-lecturer.

Guided and sung twilight walk on the Gergovie plateau

Traditional melodies will be sung by the female trio “La Mécanique des Songes” along the traces of the Battle of Gergovie. Between quotations from Caesar and archaeological discoveries, the mediators will give a panoramic reading of the landscapes at twilight.

European Archaeology Days at Gondole

Guided tour of the Gondole site, the Arverni oppidum of the confluences

In a preview before an interpretation trail is put in place in 2027, come and discover the Arverni town of Gondole with a mediator. This lowland oppidum, less well-known than its high-perched neighbours Gergovie and Corent, has yielded fascinating ritual, funerary and craft discoveries that shed light on daily life in the Arverni territory in the 1st century BC.

Concert by La Mécanique des Songes “Exploration” on the Corent plateau

On the occasion of the Archaeology Days, experience a brand-new visit combining a guided tour with live performance. Between revisited traditional songs, original compositions and world music, La Mécanique des Songes weaves a sensitive universe where reverie and poetry rhyme with a delicate alchemy of repertoire. This female trio explores the expressive power of the voice, whether a cappella or accompanied by a violin, mandolin or subtle percussion. Their stage chemistry and the precision of their harmonies will make the ancient stage at Corent a suspended place, outside of time, where voices become architecture and heritage becomes music.
